If you are a busy mom like me, finding time to grow your blogging business can be quite challenging, especially if you have a ton of housework always vying for your attention. After the kids go to bed at night, all I want to do is run to my computer to write another blog post, but sometimes, the house is a wreck.
There is a pile of dishes in the sink a mile high, the laundry needs folded and put away, the kitchen floor needs swept, the bathroom counters need wiped down, the bills need paid, phone calls need returned, you name it, it needs done.
So, how does a busy, tired mom find the time to grow her blog? I have compiled a short list of 3 tips that help me juggle blogging and housework.
This is probably the most important tip. Remember things won’t always go as planned. Even though I may be looking forward to a good solid 2 hours in the evening devoted solely to topics of my blog, it may not happen. I may, however, find that after getting the housework done, I only have a half an hour to work on my blog. That’s OK. There is always tomorrow, and there is always those moments right before you fall asleep at night to do some *blog planning* in my head. (Yes you can work on your blog in your mind too LOL)
Divide Your Time
So, the laundry needs put away and you have blog post to write….but you only have 2 hours to accomplish both before your brain is mush and your pillow starts calling your name. You have some choices. You don’t have to complete either in those 2 hours. Split up your time, designate one hour to laundry and the other to blogging.
If you don’t like starting a project and not finishing it, you could designate the whole 2 hours to laundry and wait until you have another 2 free hours after to devote to blogging.
Ideas for my blog are always entering my head, so sometimes I carry a notepad and pen around with me for those lightbulb moments. If you really want to get creative, you can carry a little recorder around in your pocket, and make verbal notes to yourself about your ideas throughout the day so you don’t forget. Talk to yourself as you are on your hands and knees scrubbing the toilet!
Building a blogging business is no easy feat, especially for a busy mom with a ton of other responsibilities. Cut yourself some slack, and remember Rome wasn’t built in a day. It will come. Your blog’s momentum will start rolling. You blog will grow, become established, and make you money. Stick to it, stay the course, and don’t give up!
